November...
We have finally finished our unit on Data Management. The class learned to create Venn Diagrams, bar graphs, create a good survey question, organize their information that they gathered to create a graph and offer information when looking at a variety of graphs. I do feel that they need further work on problem solving and communicating their thinking clearly, we will revisit these things at a later date.
We are about to start patterning. I encourage you to look for, create and discuss patterns you see around you and patterns that you create yourself.

September...
This month will be all about number awareness. The ability to read, represent, compare, and order whole numbers to 100, and use concrete materials
to represent money amounts to $10.
An example of each is as follows: READ: ninety-six REPRESENT: i could show 9 tens and six ones; I could show 8 tens and 16 ones; I could show 7 tens and 26 ones, etc. COMPARE; 96 is greater than 86 but less than 100; 96 on a number line to 100 is going to be closer to the 100 than to 1; 96 pennies has less value than 96 dimes; etc. ORDER: 26, 36, 46, 56, 66, 76, 86, 96; 93, 94, 95, 96 We will also spend a great deal of time learning how to work in a small group and what that means. |
